Benjamin Sesko has dropped a hint that he’ll stay at RB Leipzig next season dealing a potential transfer blow to Newcastle
RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has dropped a major hint about his future as the 22-year-old’s transfer saga rumbles on.
The Slovenian international has been one of the most sought-after players this summer, with an initial release clause, believed to be between £57.8m and £66m, attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Arsenal were strongly linked with Sesko but appear to have shifted their focus towards Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres instead. Newcastle looked to have jumped the gun in 2023, holding talks with his entourage before he opted to join Leipzig from RB Salzburg.
Eddie Howe’s side reignited their interest earlier this summer as they reportedly sent scouts to monitor Sesko amid uncertainty surrounding Alexander Isak’s future. Fears of a potential exit for the Swedish forward have seen Newcastle search for possible replacements.

However, any hopes of landing Sesko may now be dashed after his latest social media activity. The Leipzig star posted a collage on Instagram wearing the club’s new kit, captioned: “Getting some [pictures] for new season.”

That post looks to be suggesting that he plans to stay at the Bundesliga side next season. Sesko is in no rush to leave with his contract not expiring for another four years.
It’s a potential blow for Newcastle, who could soon face intense pressure to find a new striker. Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Isak and view him as a major target in their rebuild under Arne Slot.
The Reds also hold interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike. Newcastle had a £70m bid rejected for the French forward, who has since opened talks with Liverpool as a possible replacement for Darwin Nunez, who is expected to leave Anfield.
Newcastle value Isak at around £150m, but Liverpool reportedly have cash to spend after holding off on major moves in recent windows. Reports have even suggested that both Isak and Ekitike could end up at Anfield.
With Sesko hinting at staying put, and Liverpool circling two of their top targets, Newcastle now face a genuine risk of being left without a marquee striker ahead of the new season.
