Many in the NFL argue that the Miami Dolphins have the best wide receiver room in the league. It’s nearly tough to argue otherwise, given Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle’s All-Pro status.
Last season, Miami’s receiver room accounted for 3,620 of the Dolphins’ 4,698 receiving yards. The core of this number is situated between Waddle and Hill. In 2023, both receivers had more than 1,000 receiving yards, with Hill coming up 201 yards short of 2,000. With so much strength at an already proven position, prospective receivers will face a difficult battle to earn a spot on the team. Especially rookies.
Miami Rookie Receivers Expect Tight Competition in Training Camp
The Three Rookies and The Room
Miami Dolphins 2024 Draft sixth-round selection Malik Washington, seventh-round selection Tahj Washington, and unsigned rookie free agent Je’Quan Burton have signed deals, tied to Miami through 2027. The Dolphins will have returnees Hill, Waddle, Braxton Berrios, and River Cracraft in training camp, and Odell Beckham Jr. signed a $3 million deal.
Malik may be the ideal slot receiver for Miami.
Malik, a 5-foot-9-inch receiver, began his collegiate career at Northwestern and later transferred to Virginia. He became a highly explosive player, leading the nation with 110 receptions and breaking 1,000 receiving yards. Malik played 90% of his snaps in the slot, with a similar frame to a running back. He has ‘premium catch focus’ and an immense feel for ball position, making him a perfect fit for a quarterback forced to scramble. However, he needs to adapt to more routes during camp.
