A detailed account of Kirby Smart’s five-star transfers for Georgia football
Georgia has done a phenomenal job of hiring under Kirby Smart. Thirty five-star recruits have signed with the Bulldogs since they took control before the 2016 signing class. With Alabama coming in at number 28 and Ohio State at number 24, that is the most in the nation for that time period.
Some of those prospects have developed into outstanding football players for the Bulldogs; Jamaree Salyer, Nakobe Dean, and Travon Walker, for example, are key members of the squad that won the 2021 National Championship.
However, not every one of those athletes has finished their career in Athens. The most recent five-star talents to depart the school were Amarius Mims and Clay Webb, who both expressed a desire to play elsewhere. The top-rated recruit for Georgia in the 2021 recruiting class was Mims.
He is by no means the first five-star prospect to leave Georgia, and with the launch of the transfer site, he won’t be the last gifted prospect to do so. It’s only a part of operating expenses at a program like Georgia. Broderick Jones, another five-star player who had to wait behind Salyer the previous season, blocked Mims’ access to the field.
Here is a look at every Georgia transfer that was rated as a 5-star talent after Smart took over as head coach. The majority wanted to play, but due to Georgia’s abundance of talent, they were unable to do so for various reasons. Mims will probably experience the same thing wherever he ends up. All four of the former 5-star recruits who left Georgia to join other schools ended up starting double-digit games. Additionally, everyone of them ended up at a Power 5 program.
