Reese struggled with her shooting, making only 4-of-16 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. She reached 10 points by hitting the second of two free throws with 23 seconds left in the game.
“She’s going to keep doing what she does; that’s her nature. She always plays hard, confidently, and gives it her all,” said Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon. “She’s her own toughest critic, and I’m proud of what she’s doing and will continue to do.”
Chennedy Carter scored 15 points for Chicago. Lindsay Allen hit three 3-pointers, scored 13 points, and added 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Marina Mabrey scored 11 points on 4-of-17 shooting.
The Lynx were behind 51-42 after a jumper by Carter with 2:58 left in the third quarter but narrowed the gap to five by the period’s end with a buzzer-beater from Collier.
In the fourth quarter, Minnesota’s defense tightened, outscoring Chicago 18-5.
A three-point play by Courtney Williams put the Lynx ahead 61-59 with 3:14 remaining. McBride then made four consecutive free throws, and Minnesota kept a two-possession lead in the final two minutes.
The Lynx held the Sky to 30.5% shooting from the floor, a significant improvement after allowing the last-place Wings to shoot 48.7%, including 9 of 15 from beyond the arc, and score the most points against them this season.
Chicago drafted Reese with the seventh overall pick, a spot Minnesota had traded down from.
The Sky’s home record fell to 3-7.
Minnesota will play in New York on Tuesday, while Chicago will travel to face the Atlanta Dream on the same day.
