GEREAT DEAL:Leafs Bolster Roster with Mermis, Myers, and Paré on One-Year Deals…
Signing one-year deals with a cap hit of $775,000 each are defensemen Dakota Mermis and Philippe Myers, along with forward Cédric Paré.
Mermis played the most in the NHL last season among the three, appearing in 47 games for the Minnesota Wild, recording eight points while averaging 14 minutes per game. He is a 6-foot, left-shot defenseman who has played 74 NHL games over the past seven years.
Myers, a 6’6″ right-shot defenseman, has the most NHL experience, with 158 games over five seasons. He played five games for the Tampa Bay Lightning this season but was a more significant contributor for the Philadelphia Flyers a few years ago, averaging 17:30 time on ice over 115 games in three seasons. In the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch this past year, he posted an impressive +29 rating.
These two will serve as depth pieces on a revamped Leafs defense, following Monday’s more notable signings of Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Jani Hakanpaa.
Paré, a sixth-round pick in the 2017 Draft, is a sizable center at 6’4″. He scored 14 goals and tallied 35 points in 61 games with the Colorado Eagles in the AHL this past season.
