Huge claims from agent of Alexander Isak have many Newcastle United fans on edge

Newcastle United fans have endured endless speculation around the future of Alexander Isak, and for the most part, they’ve weathered the storm well.

Despite all of the noise, the facts mostly pointed towards the Swedish superstar staying on Tyneside next season.

A demand from the top, chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, to reject any approaches for Isak this summer, the fact that Isak still has three years on his existing deal but the club are willing to enter talks with him this summer over improved terms, and constant reassurance from the likes of Eddie Howe and even Isak himself, that he is happy at Newcastle.

All of those points point towards our star striker remaining at the club beyond this summer.

Isak’s agent has told reporters they are close to finalising Isak’s next step

There has been constant talk of a move to Liverpool, but now that they are about to tie up a deal for Hugo Ekitike, that should all die down. And yet, Isak’s absence from Celtic Park on Saturday has caused a huge stir amongst the fanbase, followed by Eddie Howe’s explanation going down like a lead balloon.

Now, Isak’s agent, Gonzalo Gaitan, has told Saudi Arabian newspaper Arriyadiyah that the next steps are clear, but hasn’t said whether Isak is staying or going.

“We may be close to finalising the next step for the player, without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle”.

And now we play the waiting game

We aren’t sure what to think any more. We had cast-iron confidence that Isak would be going nowhere this summer, but between being sent home on Saturday and this alleged statement from Isak’s agent, or at least someone claiming to be Isak’s agent, it all just feels like guesswork at this point.

A statement from Isak would be nice, but we’re not going to get one. Eddie Howe can only tell us so much; he’s hardly going to publicly state that Isak’s head is turned because that will just cause chaos.

We’re just going to have to wait for this one out and hope that a new deal is signed, and then we’ll hear what Isak has to say as he’s holding up that number nine shirt with a beaming smile. It could still happen.
