TRADE ROMURS:Maple Leafs ‘Considering’ Trading 3 Players. These players could be…
According to NHL insider Chris Johnston, the Toronto Maple Leafs are open to trading three players to create cap space and improve their team.
CapFriendly reports that the Maple Leafs are currently over the salary cap by $1.5 million, which includes Jani Hakanpaa, whose contract hasn’t been made official due to injury concerns.
Johnston indicates that Toronto is considering trading Calle Jarnkrok, David Kampf, and Timothy Liljegren to free up cap space.
“They would consider moving Kampf, Jarnkrok, or Timothy Liljegren if the right deal comes along. It’s important to note they aren’t trying to offload these players at any cost, but due to the Leafs’ tight salary cap situation, they might have to get creative to address any changes they want to make at forward,” Johnston said on The Chris Johnston Show on July 4.
“These players could be available, but there’s no indication that anything is imminent. The Leafs were open-minded about this entering the offseason. The contracts these players have are because they fulfill a role, but if the Leafs could upgrade by trading them to create cap space, they would likely do so,” Johnston added.
Jarnkrok has two years left on his contract, paying him $2.1 million per season. Kampf also has two years remaining on his deal, with an annual salary of $2.4 million.
Liljegren, the only defenseman mentioned, just signed a new two-year deal worth $3 million per season, but has still been included in trade rumors.
