Big update shared on Leeds United’s interest in Aston Villa star Emi Buendia as attentions shift

Emi Buendia has been a transfer target for Leeds United since the start of the year. Now with Leeds in the Premier League, the stage could be set for Buendia to reunite with his former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke.

Emi Buendia finds himself out of favour at current club Aston Villa. Last January, Unai Emery’s side sent the Argentine footballer on loan to Bayern Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, where Buendia featured 11 times for Xabi Alonso’s side, scoring twice in the league.

But at the end of the season, Leverkusen decided not to sign Buendia in a deal that would have cost the German outfit £16.7m. Buendia has since returned to Villa Park and his links to Leeds United have been reignited going into this summer’s transfer window, which has burst to life at Elland Road in the last week.

Daniel Farke’s side were making steady progress with four signings before announcing the £15m signing of Sean Longstaff, which was then followed up by the £17m signing of Anton Stach from Hoffenheim this week.

Next, expect Farke to turn his attentions elsewhere on the pitch, potentially towards the number 10 position.

Update shared on Emi Buendia to Leeds United

There’s a new update on Buendia’s future at Aston Villa. Reports earlier in the summer revealed how the Villans are willing to offload Buendia during the summer’s transfer window, following his arrival from Norwich City in Insert Year in a deal that cost the club £15m.

Now, Express and Star have reiterated that Buendia is available to leave Villa Park this summer, along with previous Leeds United transfer target Alex Moreno. But the same report adds that whilst Leeds United have been tracking the 28-year-old, there has been no formal approach from the Whites as of yet.

It comes amid Leeds United’s inevitable search for a new number 10 this summer, with reports previously stating that Leeds will sign one of Buendia or Gustavo Hamer this summer.

What Emi Buendia recently said about Daniel Farke at Leeds United

During the January transfer window when Leeds United were trying to sign Buendia on loan from Villa, it seemed like an ambitious move and it proved out to be just that.

It was stated that Buendia did not fancy dropping down into the Championship and he instead took a move to the top tier of German football where he had mixed performances with Bayer Leverkusen.

But going into this summer, Buendia has fuelled speculation that he could be about to join Leeds United. In a recent interview, the Argentine was speaking about his relationship with former Norwich City manager Farke and he gave a glowing verdict of his time playing under the current Leeds boss.

Buendia said about Farke: “One of the most important coaches in my career. He gave me the chance to join the club, of course.

“For me, the most important thing he gave me as a player, he gave me the confidence to be myself, to enjoy, to feel free on the pitch.”

Leeds play another behind-closed-doors friendly match in Germany on Saturday.
