NFL Major News boost Penn State star Abdul Carter’s 2025…

The Cleveland Browns are one of the NFL’s most tortured franchises over history, often by their own doing, and things got worse Monday. In reading some tea leaves, it might help a former Penn State star in his next step.

Reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year and four-time first-team All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett publicly requested a trade away from the Browns on Tuesday morning. He put out another dominant season in 2024 with 14 sacks and 22 tackles for loss, even as the Browns fell to 3-14.

Garrett has only been to the postseason twice in his eight-year career, and with the Browns coming off a terrible season with plenty of uncertainty at quarterback, the future isn’t incredibly bright.

Garrett’s contract and a front office thus far unwilling to deal the star will make things more difficult, but still, the idea is out there, and Garrett wants it done.

So, how could this impact Penn State?

Abdul Carter has widely been regarded as one of the draft’s best prospects, often falling inside the top 10 picks or even the top five. The Browns hold the No. 2 overall pick in April’s draft.

If the Browns mortgage the now for the future by trading Garrett and pass on a subpar crop of quarterbacks this year, Carter could make serious sense as a one-to-one replacement for Garrett and a player that can impact winning regardless of offensive struggles.

Top NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler of The Athletic seems to think it makes sense, writing such sentiments on X/Twitter.
