Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Dustin May is out for the rest of the 2024 season due to a new injury. The often-injured flamethrower recently underwent surgery to repair a torn esophagus, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported. This procedure will sideline him from physical activity for the next two months.

May sustained the injury in a non-baseball setting and sought medical attention for pain in his throat and stomach.

He hasn’t pitched since May 17, 2023, after undergoing surgery last year to repair a torn flexor tendon in his pitching arm. This was his second major elbow surgery in three years, following Tommy John surgery for a torn UCL in 2021.

He was expected to begin a rehab assignment soon but will now spend the rest of the season resting and rehabbing.

May, known for his fastball that often touches triple digits and exceptional pitch movement, was considered one of MLB’s most talented pitchers early in his Dodgers career. However, injuries have derailed his career, limiting him to only 191 2/3 innings over six seasons since his debut. His career high in innings pitched is 56.
