Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Teoscar Hernández won the 2024 Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field by defeating Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. in the final round. Hernández’s victory marks his first career win in the event and makes him the first Dodgers player to claim the Home Run Derby title.
This year’s event introduced new rules, including the elimination of the bracket format for the opening round. Instead, all eight hitters took their swings for up to three minutes or a maximum of 40 pitches.
The top four highest scorers advanced to the semifinals, where the bracket format returned with seeding. Both the first round and semifinals were three minutes long or 40 pitches, while the final round was two minutes or 27 pitches.
Hernández’s participation marked the 14th time a Dodgers player competed in the Home Run Derby. Since the event’s inception in 1985, a total of 12 Dodgers have taken part.
The 2024 Home Run Derby field also included Pete Alonso, Alec Bohm, Adolis García, Gunnar Henderson, Marcell Ozuna, and Jose Ramírez.
