Disappointing:Lewis Hamilton feared his winning days are over as he shockingly breaks his …
Lewis Hamilton has confessed to fearing he might never win again and dealing with mental health struggles during his over two-year winless streak in Formula One, which he ended at the British Grand Prix.
Hamilton’s victory at Silverstone was his first since Saudi Arabia in 2021, a period marked by Mercedes’ struggles to compete. The 39-year-old was in tears after crossing the finish line, overwhelmed by the significance of the achievement.
The seven-time world champion described this period as particularly challenging. “With the adversity we’ve faced as a team, and the personal challenges I’ve encountered, the constant struggle we all face to get out of bed every day and give it our best shot, there were many times when I felt my best wasn’t enough,” he said.
“We live in a time where mental health is a serious issue, and I’m not going to lie, I’ve experienced that. There were definitely moments when I thought it was over, that it was never going to happen again.”
The win at Silverstone, achieved through pace and strategy, was celebrated by Mercedes. Hamilton admitted he had never been moved to tears by a victory before.
“To have this feeling coming across the line, honestly, I’ve never cried after a win,” he said. “It just came out of me. It’s an amazing feeling. I’m very, very grateful for it.”
Following his last win in 2021, Hamilton endured the controversial decision at the Abu Dhabi GP that cost him his eighth title, which the FIA later admitted was due to human error by race director Michael Masi. Recovering from that blow contributed to his mental struggle over the past two seasons.
