Although the Toronto Maple Leafs “only” signed six players from outside the organization at the start of free agency, it’s fair to say that Philippe Myers didn’t garner much attention.
The former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman’s signing was overshadowed by the high-profile addition of former Dallas Stars blueliner Chris Tanev. However, Myers could become the perfect under-the-radar acquisition.
“When Philippe Myers joined the Toronto Maple Leafs shortly after July 1, it was widely seen as a move to bolster defensive depth and provide insurance,” Parson pondered. “However, could Myers offer more than initially perceived? Is there potential for him to significantly impact the roster?”
At 27 years old, Myers signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with Toronto following a similar one-year deal with Tampa Bay.
