So far this summer, Manchester United have welcomed three players to the first team, including Diego Leon, who joined after a pre-agreement with Cerro Porteno in January.
Matheus Cunha was the first summer arrival from Wolves and was followed by Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford over a month later.
While Amorim is on the lookout for a new striker, the United head coach has added two attacking players who can provide goals from the number 10 position. They scored 37 between them in the Premier League last term, compared to 44 from United’s entire squad.
Another position that Amorim is reportedly keen to strengthen is the goalkeeper, with Andre Onana currently occupying the first-choice spot. It remains to be seen if Turkey international Altay Bayindir will move on this summer, but question marks also remain over Onana’s future at Old Trafford.
United are also understood to be in the market for a new deep-lying midfielder, but Ineos must sell players in order to generate funds for extra signings.

Man Utd surprise Aston Villa with Emiliano Martinez offer
United have been linked with a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper and Argentina World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez since the beginning of the summer.
Although the shot-stopper has flown out with the Villa squad to the United States for pre-season, it is understood that his future at Villa Park remains uncertain.
According to The Telegraph, United have made an initial move to sign Martinez on loan, but it was instantly rejected by Villa.
The report stresses that Villa have set a £40m price tag on Martinez’s head, which means United are miles off with their first offer for the goalkeeper.
Martinez would be an addition that would challenge Onana for a place in the team. Competition can only be a good thing during a season that United fans are desperate to see an improvement from Amorim’s team.
Sources have told United in Focus that Martinez is not the only Villa player attracting interest from United, with Ollie Watkins emerging as a striker target to bolster Amorim’s attack.
It won’t be until after deadline day that we get a full picture of Amorim’s side for the new season.
Martinez’s stats last season
The 2024/25 season was another one that Onana will want to forget about.
It could even force Amorim’s hand in finding a replacement this summer, as we’ve seen is a possibility following the loan offer for Martinez.
Martinez performed strongly at Aston Villa last summer, but only managed a total of 8 clean sheets from 37 appearances.
Emiliano Martinez stats | Premier League 2024/25 |
Appearances | 37 |
Saves | 100 |
Clean Sheets | 8 |
A new goalkeeper with the experience Martinez has could be what Amorim’s back-three needs next season.
Since the Martinez offer, it has been reported that United are ready to push ahead with a deal to try to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
It has been suggested that Lemmens could be available for around £17 million.
