Hello and welcome to the Manchester United transfer blog on Saturday, July 26.
The transfer market has exploded into life this week after the shock news that Alexander Isak has informed Newcastle that he wishes to seek opportunities elsewhere. Unfortunately for United fans, the Reds are not currently planning to bid for the Swede with his potential £150m price tag being too high for the club.
A more likely option is Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins but similarly to Newcastle, his club are likely to dig their heels in to keep their man. Another player who has emerged as an alternative for the frontline is Metz’s teenager Idrissa Gueye.
Not to be confused with the Everton midfielder, the 18-year-old broke into the second-tier French club’s first team last season and scored five goals in 17 appearances. Meanwhile, Benjamin Sesko continues to be linked with teams including United and Newcastle, should Isak leave them.
Ultimately, the sale of Alejandro Garnacho and some of his teammates could determine the money on offer for United to spend. However, Ruben Amorim has warned the winger, and his teammates, may not necessarily leave this summer.
How we would manage Manchester United
Manchester United supporters could get their first opportunity in the early hours of Sunday morning to see Bryan Mbeumo in his new surroundings.
The trip to the US kicks off with a clash against West Ham, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, which should provide another opportunity for Ruben Amorim to assess the players at his disposal. After the Premier League Series, there will be a desire for United to look closer to a squad ready to challenge at the right end of the table, yet again.
So with that in mind prior to the start of their US fixtures, MEN Sport has taken a look at what we would do if we were in Amorim’s hot-seat heading into the new campaign and the remainder of the summer transfer window.
