What Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo did against Everton proves Ruben Amorim has a trick up his sleeve

Ruben Amorim fielded new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo together as Manchester United faced Everton.

The Manchester United boss has been eager to manage the minutes of his players during the pre-season tour of the United States.

But in the final game on tour, he treated fans to new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as United drew 2-2 with Everton in Atlanta.

Mbeumo impressed on his debut despite only playing the first 45 minutes. Cunha got some valuable minutes in his legs and was also given the freedom to play in multiple positions.

Once again, Amorim raised a few eyebrows with his team selection against Everton. It was made clear that Mbeumo would be making his debut, but United’s front line lacked a clear centre-forward.

Rasmus Hojlund was named on the bench, with Cunha, Mbeumo and captain Bruno Fernandes making up the attacking trio in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

At first, it was Cunha who played centrally, dropping into a false nine position to help link up play. But throughout the match, Amorim’s side played in different shapes and formations.
