Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson describes Jared Waerea-Hargreaves’ sin-binning as ‘disappointing’ as the veteran faces a possible suspension.
The Roosters are anxiously awaiting news on a potential charge for veteran prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, who was reported for a dangerous hit during his side’s win over the Titans on Sunday.
Second-rower Angus Crichton scored his second career hat-trick, helping the Roosters move to 36 points on the ladder and push Penrith out of second place due to a superior points differential.
The Roosters could secure a top-two finish by winning their remaining matches against Canberra and South Sydney.
Waerea-Hargreaves was sin-binned in the 12th minute and reported for an incident leading up to a try by Titans winger Alofiana Khan-Pereira. In his first game back from a four-match suspension, he was reviewed by The Bunker for forceful contact to the head of Titans hooker Sam Verrills.
“I don’t think I can comment much further on that. It was disappointing for him to be sent to the sin bin, but I’ll leave it at that,” said Roosters coach Trent Robinson.
Given his previous offenses, a grade-two charge from the match review committee would result in a three-match suspension for Waerea-Hargreaves.
If the Roosters fail to finish in the top four and lose their opening final—which is unlikely—it would mark the end of Waerea-Hargreaves’ NRL career, as he is set to join Hull Kingston Rovers in England next season.
The Roosters also lost centre Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii to a shoulder injury in the first half. Robinson described it as “a really bad stinger” and hoped it would improve by Monday.
In another NRL match on Sunday, the Cronulla Sharks secured their ninth consecutive win over the St George Illawarra Dragons in Wollongong with a series of four second-half tries.
