Newcastle United want to sign both Yoane Wissa and Ollie Watkins

Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign both Ollie Watkins and Yoane Wissa from Aston Villa and Brentford in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Ollie Watkins and Yoane Wissa have emerged as subjects of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the two Premier League attackers have emerged on the Tyneside club’s radar.

Newcastle United pushed hard to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. However, the Slovenian international is keen on joining Manchester United, forcing the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners to look elsewhere for a new striker. So, the Aston Villa and Brentford strikers have emerged as alternatives for Newcastle United.

Ollie Watkins and Yoane Wissa: Two of the best Premier League strikers

Ollie Watkins has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League since joining Aston Villa from Brentford in September 2020. The Englishman has come leaps and bounds in the last half a dozen years, having become a talismanic figure for the West Midlands outfit. He has turned out over 200 times thus far for Aston Villa while chipping in with 87 goals and 42 assists.

On the other hand, Yoane Wissa has come leaps and bounds since joining Brentford from FC Lorient in August 2021. The 28-year-old has been an undisputed first-choice starter for the West London club in the last few seasons, and he amassed 20 goals and five assists in the 2024/25 campaign. Meanwhile, Watkins and Wissa have captured the attention of several well-known clubs with their progress, with Newcastle United among their prospective suitors.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Newcastle United’s interest in Ollie Watkins and Yoane Wissa is understandable. The Magpies are in a spot of bother over Alexander Isak’s long-term future. Additionally, Callum Wilson, who has completed a Bosman move to West Ham United, left the Tyneside outfit as a free agent last month. Several candidates have thus emerged on Newcastle United’s radar.

The 2024/25 EFL Cup winners were keen on signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig as a long-term replacement for Isak. However, the 22-year-old RB Leipzig striker is keen on joining Manchester United, forcing Newcastle United to identify Watkins and Wissa as alternatives.

However, the two Premier League strikers will not come cheap, and they will set Newcastle United back by over £100 million. It will be interesting to see if the duo arrives at St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window.
