Aston Villa Working on Deal to Sign £305,000-a-Week Champions League Star

Aston Villa could look to re-sign one of their loan stars from last season in the form of Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Asensio, according to reports – with the Villans ‘exploring’ a deal to bring him back to the west Midlands after a successful spell at Villa Park in the second half of last season.

Asensio had only featured sparingly in the French capital in the first half of last season under Luis Enrique, playing in just 16 games in the first half of the campaign in all competitions, prompting a move to Villa – where he became a fan favourite with eight goals in just 21 outings for the club, including a brace against Club Brugge in the Champions League, another brace against Chelsea in a 2-1 win on home turf, and a further two against Cardiff City in the FA Cup.

John Percy: Aston Villa ‘Exploring Move’ to Sign Marco Asensio

The midfielder is seemingly out of favour at the Ligue 1 winners, but a report by the Telegraph journalist John Percy on X (formerly Twitter) states that with just one year left on the Spaniard’s contract, he could be on the move this summer – and Villa are open to either a permanent move or a loan deal before the transfer window slams shut in just under three weeks.

Asensio spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa and was a key player in their Champions League quarter-final run, as well as being key in the FA Cup and the Premier League, which could prompt a return for the £305,000-a-week star.

Emery is keen to bring him back, with his versatility and ability to play across the forward areas of the pitch being massively advantageous to his compatriot gaffer. A further report by Percy in The Telegraph states that Asensio has been a target for Emery ever since the Basque boss took over at Villa almost three years ago, and they would be open to having him back despite interest from the Turkish Super Lig and the Saudi Pro League.

A move could suit all parties, with PSG keen to get the playmaker off their wage bill, and so they could accept a cut-price fee which would suit Villa, who have struggled with PSR and FFP regulations in recent summer transfer windows.

Villa’s only notable addition so far is the capture of Evann Guessand from Nice last week, and Asensio is already a fan favourite at Villa, which would skip any teething process.
