Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick criticized Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis regrets one particular throw after the team’s 24-17 loss to the Chicago Bears.

With 7:35 left in the fourth quarter, Levis was pressured by several Bears defenders and attempted to throw the ball towards the sidelines, either to get rid of it or to find receiver Tyler Boyd. Instead, the ball was intercepted by Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who returned it for the go-ahead touchdown that secured the victory.

Following the game, former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, now an analyst on “The Pat McAfee Show,” commented on the play.

“The most important aspect for a quarterback is decision-making,” Belichick said about Levis. “There’s no benefit to that play. Only downside. It’s just poor decision-making.”

Had Levis taken a sack on that play, the Titans would have had to punt the ball back to the Bears with only a few minutes left, while leading 17-16. However, being down 24-17, as happened, was a worse outcome.

A player like Ryan Tannehill, last year’s Week 1 starting quarterback, might have avoided this mistake. Thus, the Titans could have won the game if Levis had not been under center.

Despite this, Levis still has significant potential that has yet to be fully realized, which is why the Titans have made him their starter. They need to evaluate how he responds to this role, and the Week 1 loss, particularly this play, was not an ideal start. If such mistakes become a pattern, they could significantly impact his career.
