Andy Carroll says he played with someone at Liverpool who was even better than Luis Suarez

Andy Carroll’s time at Liverpool didn’t exactly go to plan.

Indeed, Andy Carroll wishes he never signed for Liverpool and he had a torrid time of it at Anfield as he struggled for both form and fitness.

However, as poor as Carroll’s Merseyside spell was, he was lucky enough to play with some fantastic players during that time.

Liverpool weren’t amazing at the time, but they did boast some top talents at times.

Carroll worked with some top players at Liverpool, and speaking to CBS Sports, he’s named who he believes is the best footballer he’s ever shared the pitch with.

Andy Carroll says Steven Gerrard is the best he’s ever played with

Andy Carroll was asked to pick his dream five-a-side team made up of former teammates by CBS.

According to the striker, Steven Gerrard would be in that team, labelling the former Liverpool captain as the best player he’s ever played with.

Carroll has, of course, played with Luis Suarez, but according to the attacker, Gerrard is the best he’s ever played with.

“Definitely Stevie G is in there, without a doubt he is the best player I’ve ever played with, unbelievable, he’s incredible, absolutely incredible. I’d have Wayne Rooney in there, John Terry, Joe Hart, and then I might put you in there Jay (Bothroyd),” Carroll said.

Steven Gerrard and Andy Carroll’s record together

Carroll says Gerrard is the best player he’s ever worked with, but their record together at Liverpool was very shoddy, it must be said.

Indeed, as good as Gerrard was, his time alongside Carroll at Liverpool was one of the darker periods of the club’s recent history.

The stats show that Liverpool, quite simply, weren’t good at this point.

Games 28
Wins 12
Draws 7
Losses 9

Of course, Gerrard was a shining light in what was a rather poor team, while Carroll was emblematic of many of Liverpool’s problems as he cost big-money and never quite delivered on his potential.

Gerrard was an all-time great at Liverpool, but, sadly, he spent a lot of his time at Anfield playing in a team that wasn’t up to scratch.
