Aston Villa are in the picture to sign AC Milan’s Alexis Saelemaekers this summer.
On Friday, TuttoMercatoWeb and MilanNews.it both reported Aston Villa have made contact over a move for the 26-year-old. They also explained the Villans could soon make an offer to both him and his club.
Calciomercato now report no offer has arrived.
Last season, Saelemaekers was on loan at AS Roma, who were pleased with his displays. He managed seven goals and seven assists from 31 games while operating mainly as a right wing-back and at times on both wings.
Roma tried to find out if they were able to retain him, but it wasn’t possible. Since then, the Belgium international has attracted interest from the Premier League, with Aston Villa ‘leading the way’. Nottingham Forest are also in the picture.
Juventus manager Igor Tudor appreciates him and there’s been on talk of including him in a swap deal for Dušan Vlahović.
According to Calciomercato, Saelemaekers said ‘no’ to Unai Emery’s side and other clubs, as he wants to continue at the San Siro.
He managed to impress new manager Massimiliano Allegri in pre-season and Milan are ‘now evaluating a project with Saelemaekers’. The report adds the Italian club are also studying the possibility of renewing his contract beyond 2027.
The player currently earns €1m net per year and his salary may also be improved. The Rossoneri plan to start discussions over a new contract in the coming weeks, likely after this window.
Although Aston Villa are keen, they need to convince Saelemaekers to change his stance to secure his services.
