According to Jacob Tanswell of The Athletic, Aston Villa are not planning on selling Morgan Rogers and are ready to offer the star attacker a new deal. The fresh terms will reflect on his importance to the team and, more importantly, fend off interest from the likes of Chelsea amid heavy links.
Morgan Rogers has been a player of absolute quality from Aston Villa’s perspective. The low-cost signing of the emerging star from Middlesbrough back when he arrived did raise some eyebrows, but he has managed to grab the attention of some of the biggest clubs with his top-notch performances.
The attacker is viewed as one of the key men in Unai Emery’s squad, and Aston Villa have been desperate to keep hold of him since the early days of the summer window. There are many of the top six teams angling for a move for the 23-year-old Aston Villa mainstay, but any deal will be complicated by his asking price.
Arsenal made preliminary checks on Rogers, but they have not moved in the 23-year-old Aston Villa mainstay’s direction so far. The Gunners are seemingly looking at Eberechi Eze after their big summer window, but Chelsea are Villa’s biggest threat.
Chelsea even thought of a player exchange deal to bring Rogers, and remain interested despite bringing a raft of attackers in the window. They are also closing in on Xavi Simons, who could be viewed as a similar profile to the 23-year-old Aston Villa mainstay, but the Blues prefer Rogers as a main target.
Aston Villa ready to renew Morgan Rogers’ contract
Rogers still has five years to run on his current deal after signing an extension back in November 2024. On paper, Villa have no realistic need to hand the 23-year-old a new deal, but they are eager to offer him terms that reflect his importance in the team.
Aston Villa have no plans to part ways with him, as he’s seen as a vital part of their upcoming season and beyond. However, one might suspect the likes of Chelsea might make one last push before determining their chances in the race for Rogers, who might end up agreeing to a new deal.
