Aston Villa have been tipped to consider a slightly risky transfer move for free agent centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.
The former Everton striker, who recently left Goodison Park at the end of his contract, remains available and without a club for the time being.
Still, there’s been plenty of speculation about where Calvert-Lewin could go next, with the 28-year-old undoubtedly capable of being a top Premier League player on his day.
It might be that clubs are unsure about Calvert-Lewin at the moment after some injury problems and a loss of form towards the end of his time at Everton.
However, former Leicester City and Brentford manager Martin Allen admits he could see Villa being tempted to gamble on the player.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Aston Villa?
Discussing this possibility with Villa News, Allen said: “He’s had a particularly difficult time with injury.
“However, if he has been training hard throughout the summer and built up his fitness over a good six-week period, he will get goals. Calvert-Lewin has got something about him, he’s got strength, he’s got pace and good in the air.
“If Villa get him on a free transfer and take a gamble on him, it could well pay off. I could see a move to Villa happening because he has got talent, there’s no doubt about that.”
