Penn State Football Announces It Will Not Hold Spring Game in 2025 Due to Stadium Renovations
Penn State football has officially announced that it will not hold its annual Blue-White spring game in 2025 due to ongoing renovations at Beaver Stadium. The decision, which comes as part of a larger effort to modernize the historic venue, marks a rare break in tradition for one of college football’s most anticipated offseason events.
The Blue-White Game, typically held in April, serves as a showcase for fans to get an early look at the team ahead of the regular season. It also plays a crucial role in recruiting, alumni engagement, and community events. However, with significant upgrades planned for Beaver Stadium—including infrastructure improvements, seating enhancements, and fan experience upgrades—the university determined that hosting the scrimmage would not be feasible.
“We understand how much this event means to our fans, players, and the entire Penn State community,” said head coach James Franklin. “While we’re disappointed that we won’t have the opportunity to hold the game in 2025, these renovations are essential for the long-term success of our program and for enhancing the game-day experience.”
Athletic director Pat Kraft echoed Franklin’s sentiments, emphasizing that the upgrades will position Penn State among the premier college football venues in the country. “These renovations are a game-changer for our facilities. While we’ll miss having the Blue-White Game in 2025, we’re confident that the improvements will benefit our players, fans, and future recruits,” Kraft said.
Although the traditional spring game will be absent next year, the team still plans to hold closed spring practices, and alternative fan engagement events may be considered. Penn State officials have assured fans that the Blue-White Game will return in 2026, once stadium upgrades are complete.
