Chelsea’s Forgotten Star Returns! Blues Plot Fresh Comeback Plan for £17m Striker Deivid Washington After “Career Standstill” Shocker

Chelsea are preparing to give young forward Deivid Washington a fresh start as they plan to reintegrate him into their development setup following a frustrating spell both at club and international level, according to The Chelsea Chronicle.

The 20-year-old Brazilian, once hailed as one of South America’s brightest prospects, has endured a tough run since joining the Blues from Santos in 2023, managing only three senior appearances. Despite early expectations, Washington has yet to feature under either Mauricio Pochettino or current boss Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea recently decided to recall him from his loan stint at Santos, where he struggled to find consistent minutes. Instead of immediately returning to first-team training, the plan is for Washington to rebuild his confidence and sharpness with the youth teams at Cobham.

Insiders told Mail Online that Washington “hasn’t been written off,” with the club still confident he can rediscover the form that once made him a standout talent.

However, his international fortunes also took a hit. At the U20 World Cup, Brazil suffered a disappointing early exit after failing to win any of their group-stage matches against Morocco, Mexico, and Spain — a stark contrast to Washington’s earlier performances, where he had impressed in friendlies, even outshining Kendry Paez.

With Chelsea’s constant player turnover and the arrival of new stars, competition for attacking roles has intensified. Big names such as Raheem SterlingAxel Disasi, and Joao Felix have also faced challenges maintaining consistent spots, making it even harder for emerging talents like Washington to break through.

Despite the obstacles, Chelsea remain invested in his development. Though Sunderland reportedly showed interest in a potential loan deal, the Blues opted to keep him after Liam Delap’s injury and Nicolas Jackson’s move to Bayern Munich.

For now, the focus is on helping Washington reignite his career within the academy setup — with the long-term goal of forcing his way back into the senior squad and proving he still has a future at Stamford Bridge.
