Newcastle United have now turned their attention in the goalkeeping department to Southampton star Aaron Ramsdale, according to reports – with the club having failed to secure the signing of a long-term target.
Reports: Newcastle ‘Make Offer’ to Sign Aaron Ramsdale
The Southampton goalkeeper could be on his way to the north east

However, in a bid to change the tide and the outcome of their summer plans, a report by Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie on Monday afternoon stated that Ramsdale is now in talks to sign for Newcastle, in a potential reunion with Magpies boss Eddie Howe.
He featured for the Englishman in his time at Bournemouth, with Ramsdale and Howe both leaving in the summer of 2020 after relegation to the Championship – and Newcastle were interested in signing the ‘exceptional’ star last summer.
James Trafford was instead their chosen target, embarking on a 12-month-long pursuit of the Burnley star, but with Manchester City now edging them in the race to land the England under-21 star after their agreed a fee, Newcastle have now moved to Ramsdale as a Trafford alternative.
Furthermore, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has claimed that Newcastle have made a loan-to-buy offer for the former Arsenal stopper.
The esteemed journalist states that the Magpies have made an offer for an initial loan, and talks are ongoing, but there has been no agreement as yet. Southampton would consider either a straight sale or a loan move with a significant loan fee and a purchase price involved.
Ramsdale does have four years left on his Saints contract, having joined from Arsenal for £25million last summer, and that could be a sticking point for the Tyneside club – but Ornstein believes a deal is ‘advancing’.
