“Dream Team Reunion? Horia Tecău Wants Simona Halep Back on Wimbledon Grass — and She Might Just Say Yes!”

Former Romanian tennis ace Horia Tecău has extended a warm invitation to Simona Halep, expressing his wish to team up with the two-time Grand Slam champion for the Wimbledon Legends competition.

The 40-year-old Tecău, who enjoyed a glittering doubles career before retiring in 2022, attended several high-profile events during Wimbledon week — including the women’s final and the traditional champions’ dinner. Inspired by the atmosphere, he revealed that stepping back onto Wimbledon’s iconic grass remains on his wish list — this time alongside Halep.

“I want to play in the legends’ competition two more times,” Tecău told as.ro. “One with my former partner Jean-Julien Rojer, to relive our amazing run together, and another with Simona Halep in the mixed doubles event. I’ve already told her about it when we met at the women’s final. She knows, and we’ll see what happens in the coming years.”

Tecău added that while the legends’ matches are played mostly for fun and entertainment, the competitive fire still burns bright. “It’s always special to play at Wimbledon — it’s a place that never loses its magic,” he said.

During his illustrious career, Tecău captured 38 doubles titles, including two Grand Slams — Wimbledon (2015) and the US Open (2017) — both alongside Rojer.

As for Simona Halep, she remains one of Romania’s greatest sporting icons. The former world No. 1 and 2019 Wimbledon champion famously defeated Serena Williams 6-2, 6-2 in a stunning final, a year after winning the French Open in 2018.

If this reunion happens, tennis fans could witness one of the most nostalgic and heartwarming doubles pairings in recent Wimbledon memory.
