Eddie Howe has previously raved about Newcastle’s ‘exceptional’ transfer target

Newcastle United will be hopeful that their summer transfer window can finally spring into life following a disappointing few months.

It’s been a challenging start to the window so far, with Anthony Elanga the only arrival at Newcastle following his £55m move.

Meanwhile, Alexander Isak wants to join Liverpool, and he could join the Toon’s former target, Hugo Ekitike, in arriving at Anfield this summer.

Eddie Howe will now be hoping that his team can start to make some inroads of their own in terms of bringing in new players and one of his targets he has previously

When Eddie Howe hailed Aaron Ramsdale at Bournemouth

During their time together at Bournemouth, Howe spoke very highly of Newcastle United transfer target Aaron Ramsdale.

The former Cherries’ boss was the man to hand Ramsdale his senior debut for the club, and the former Arsenal shot-stopper never looked back after his first appearance.

During 2020, that is when Ramsdale broke into the team at the Vitality Stadium and made a real name for himself on the South Coast.

Howe told TalkSPORT via Bournemouth Echo: “Aaron has been the big surprise – I don’t want to say surprise because I really think he’s an exceptional goalkeeper.

“But to everyone else a surprise because they wouldn’t have heard too much about him prior to this season.

“He has accepted the challenge brilliantly for a young goalkeeper, which is probably the hardest position to blood young players in.

“He has taken that responsibility and never looked back. To this point, he has been magnificent for us.”

TBR Football can confirm that Aaron Ramsdale has been waiting for the right offer to arrive since being told by Southampton he can leave, and now Newcastle are again showing an interest.

After failing to land James Trafford and Lucas Chevalier set to join Paris Saint-Germain, they are now back in talks for Ramsdale.

Speaking about the situation, TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, said: “Eddie Howe is a confirmed fan of Ramsdale.

“He wants to bolster his goalkeeping department and having missed out on James Trafford, he is looking at other options. I am told Ramsdale is very keen to work with Howe having signed for him at Bournemouth.”

Aaron Ramsdale’s record under Eddie Howe at Bournemouth

Bournemouth failed to stay up during Ramsdale’s first season at the club, however, his form earned him a quick return to the top-flight.

The goalkeeper joined Sheffield United in August 2020 and the following summer, he managed to secure a £30m move to Arsenal.

Ramsdale’s move to Arsenal proved a controversial one, but he eventually proved himself at the Emirates Stadium at the start of Mikel Arteta’s reign in North London.

This would be a sensible move from Howe, given his relationship with the goalkeeper already and playing with a strong back four will benefit him greatly.
