Exclusive: Celtic to complete ‘spine of their team’ with double signing

Celtic are accelerating moves to bring in a central midfielder and a centre-back this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hoops have had a fairly understated transfer window so far, ahead of their bid to win their fifth Scottish Premiership title in a row next season.

However, sources say that the Glasgow giants are keen to improve the spine of their team and are working on deals to add a midfielder and centre-half to their ranks.

At the end of August, Celtic will compete in Champions League qualifying, so they will want the majority of their business to be completed before then.

The Hoops also added Hayato Inamura to their ranks for an undisclosed fee, but the Japanese defender is expected to go straight out on loan.

However, Rodgers is not satisfied with the business so far, saying that there is “a lot more to come” in terms of signings (BBC).

Celtic to battle Rangers for teenage sensation

Meanwhile, Rangers and Celtic are set to battle it out to sign Serbian star Andrej Bacanin, sources have told Football Insider.

The 18-year-old is expected to leave Serbian Super League side FK Cukaricki this summer, with a number of big European teams interested.

Sources say that the Glasgow pair lead the race for Bacanin but will have to fend off interest from the likes of Ajax and Udinese to secure his signature.

Both Rangers and Celtic have a good chance of making a deal happen, and it will come down to who can win the bidding war for the midfielder.
