Newcastle United’s ambitions of securing a striker still haven’t come to fruition in the transfer market so far this summer, with a number of options turning down a move to St. James’ Park to leave them threadbare up front – but Fabrizio Romano has exclusively claimed on GIVEMESPORT’s ‘Market Madness’ podcast that Brentford star Yoane Wissa is their ‘most likely’ striker signing, as it’s the easiest deal to do.
Romano: Newcastle’s ‘Most Likely’ Move is for Wissa
They haven’t given up hope just yet, though. Wissa has been a target since they wanted to add a strike partner for Isak after Callum Wilson’s contract expired, and although they’ve been haggling with a fee for the Congolese international, it appears that they are getting closer to announcing a move for the Bees hero.
And now Romano has exclusively stated on GIVEMESPORT’s ‘Market Madness’ podcast that the Magpies’ most likely addition up front is indeed the ‘unbelievable’ striker, with a deal being easiest to do – and with Wissa pushing for a move up north, that could be done in the coming weeks.
“The most likely in this moment is [Yoane] Wissa, because it’s probably the easier deal to do. So this negotiation with Brentford has not been easy, but it’s still ongoing.
“On the player’s side, he’s really pushing to go to Newcastle, and so I think this one has a very good chance to happen.
“The player really, really wants to go to Newcastle, despite some approaches also from the Saudi Pro League.”
Wissa scored 19 Premier League goals last season, an incredible tally which fired the west London club into the top half for the second time in four years.
But with Mbeumo leaving the Bees, as well as long-serving manager Thomas Frank, an exodus has somewhat taken place and that could see Wissa join them on his way out of the Gtech Community Stadium with Eddie Howe clearly keen on his talents.
