Former UF Commit Tae’shaun Gelsey Flips Commitment Back to Florida Gators
In a surprising turn of events, four-star athlete Tae’shaun Gelsey has flipped his commitment back to the Florida Gators, just weeks after initially pledging to the Florida State Seminoles. Gelsey, a highly sought-after 6’4”, 215-pound prospect from Riverside High School in Jacksonville, originally committed to Florida in June 2024 before decommitting in December to join FSU. However, after further evaluation, he has decided to return to Gainesville.
Gelsey, a dynamic two-way player, is expected to contribute as both a wide receiver and a tight end at the college level. His blend of size, athleticism, and versatility makes him one of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting class. His decision to rejoin the Gators is a significant win for head coach Billy Napier, who has been working hard to strengthen Florida’s roster after a challenging 2024 season.
In a statement posted on social media, Gelsey expressed gratitude toward both programs but emphasized that his heart has always been with Florida. “After much thought and prayer, I’ve decided to recommit to the University of Florida. The coaching staff, the fans, and the culture in Gainesville feel like home to me,” he wrote.
The flip is a major recruiting victory for the Gators, who have been battling to retain top in-state talent against fierce competition from Florida State, Miami, and other SEC programs. Gelsey’s return bolsters Florida’s already impressive 2025 class and brings much-needed depth to the offense.
With National Signing Day approaching, Gator fans will be watching closely to see if Florida can secure additional top recruits. For now, Gelsey’s commitment is a huge momentum boost as the team looks to build for the future.
