‘Here We Go’ – Fabrizio Romano: Sunderland Agree £17m Deal for Forward

Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign Sassuolo winger Armand Lauriente, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Black Cats have reportedly struck a deal worth €20m (£17m) for the French attacker, with personal terms also agreed.

Lauriente is now set to become Sunderland’s seventh signing of a busy summer at the Stadium of Light, following the arrivals of Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra, Enzo Le Fee, Chemsdine Talbi, Noah Sadiki and Reinildo.

Lauriente was one of the standout players in Serie B last season and helped Sassuolo secure an immediate return to the top tier of Italian football.

The Frenchman netted 18 goals and provided six assists in 33 league appearances, finishing the campaign as Serie B’s top scorer.

A move to Sunderland will see Lauriente reunite with his former Lorient manager Regis Le Bris, who took charge of the Black Cats last season, as well as ex-teammate Le Fee.

Lauriente spent three seasons with Sassuolo after joining in 2022 and brings plenty of experience from the top tiers of Italian and French football.

He made 65 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo and registered 24 goal contributions across his first two seasons with the club.

Sunderland’s summer business shows no signs of slowing down, as the Black Cats continue efforts to bolster their squad and avoid an immediate return to the Championship next season.

According to reports in France, Le Bris’ side are also targeting a new central defender and have seen a £23m bid rejected for Lille ace Bafode Diakite.
