How Coventry feel about selling Newcastle United target Jack Rudoni as offer rejected

Coventry City have rejected a bid from Southampton for Newcastle United transfer target Jack Rudoni.

Newcastle have looked at signing Rudoni as they attempt to beef up their midfield following the exit of Sean Longstaff and an injury suffered by Joe Willock.

Eddie Howe has confirmed Newcastle want to sign a new midfielder, with the squad looking light in that department as things stand.

While the midfield unit was a strength at Newcastle United last season, options behind the first-team do not fully convince.

If any one of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali or Joelinton gets injured, the Newcastle United manager will have a problem on his hands.

Willock has hardly convinced for two seasons now, while Lewis Miley is in development.

As such, Rudoni is a target, although the 24-year-old played in a more attacking role than Longstaff last season.

Such is the level of interest in the player, an offer from a Championship club has been rejected.

Southampton have offer for Jack Rudoni rejected

According to The Sun, Southampton have seen an offer snubbed by Frank Lampard’s side.

It’s thought that their bid fell well below Coventry’s valuation of the former Wimbledon and Huddersfield star, who scored ten goals while registering 13 assists in 50 games last season.

Coventry do not want to sell the player this summer, and it remains to be seen if Saints return with another bid.

How Jack Rudoni feels about his future amid Newcastle United interest

While the player is said to be keen to test himself in the Premier League, it has previously been claimed that Rudoni is happy to stay at Coventry.

Given he’s now working under one of England’s greatest ever midfielders and is clearly impressing, that’s a logical stance to take.

It would be interesting to see how much that would be tested if Newcastle did come calling, however.

Howe’s side can offer Champions League football, although Rudoni would presumably be arriving as a squad player not guaranteed to start many games.
