James Franklin Named College Football’s Best Coach in Prestigious Ranking

*March 24, 2025* — Penn State head coach James Franklin has been named the best coach in college football in a highly respected ranking released this week. The ranking, compiled by a panel of analysts and former coaches, recognizes Franklin’s impact on the Nittany Lions and his success in elevating the program to national prominence.

Franklin, who has been at the helm of Penn State since 2014, has consistently built competitive teams, securing multiple 10-win seasons and making the College Football Playoff in recent years. His ability to recruit top talent and develop players into NFL prospects has been a key factor in earning the top spot in this ranking.

“This is a tremendous honor, but it’s really a reflection of the players, coaching staff, and everyone who has been part of our program,” Franklin said in a statement. “We’ve worked hard to create a culture of excellence, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished.”

Franklin’s recognition comes after another strong season in which Penn State finished as a top-10 team, defeated multiple ranked opponents, and solidified itself as a powerhouse in the Big Ten. Under his leadership, the program has maintained a strong recruiting presence and consistently competed with top programs such as Michigan and Ohio State.

The ranking considered a variety of factors, including win-loss records, player development, recruiting success, and overall program improvement. Franklin edged out other top coaches, including Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer, and Michigan’s Sherrone Moore.

With this latest accolade, Franklin’s reputation as one of the premier coaches in college football continues to grow, and expectations remain high for Penn State as they prepare for another championship-contending season.
