Leeds United target Mehdi Taremi is now also being pursued by Brazilian side Botafogo, according to Globo Esporte. The report reveals that the Rio de Janeiro club have made a formal offer to the Inter Milan striker, who is expected to leave the Serie A side this summer after just one season.
Taremi, 33, was linked with a move to the Premier League, as we recently covered, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Leeds had made an enquiry. West Ham and Fulham are also said to be interested, and the Whites are seen as a strong option due to the player’s desire to remain in Europe.
His representatives reportedly have a verbal agreement with Inter to facilitate a summer exit, and are cooperating with clubs that fit his preferences.
Now, Botafogo have emerged as fresh competition. Globo Esporte claims the Brazilian club approached Taremi to understand the terms of a deal, and after receiving feedback, submitted a contract proposal running until December 2027. The player would earn less than he does at Inter, but the offer is considered competitive.
Despite the formal offer from Botafogo, Taremi’s priority remains continuing his career in Europe. Talks with Besiktas were already held, but no deal materialised. Inter Milan are expected to demand around €8m, although that fee could be negotiable given the player arrived on a free from Porto.
Taremi remains a prominent figure for the Iranian national team and enjoyed a prolific spell in Portugal, where he scored 31 goals in 51 matches during the 2022/23 season for Porto.
His next destination could soon be decided, with Leeds and other suitors weighing up their next move.
