Leeds United’s stance on Illan Meslier as Adam Underwood closes in on Lucas Perri signing

Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Lucas Perri from Lyon as Adam Underwood moves swiftly after Anton Stach’s confirmation to solve another transfer priority.

Going into last week, Leeds wanted another midfielder alongside Sean Longstaff and they struck a £19.9m deal for two-time Germany international Stach. He has signed a four-year deal at Leeds this summer.

It saw Adam Underwood complete his work with the Leeds defence and in midfield. It leaves Leeds with a goalkeeper, a left-winger and a striker to sign. Well, it now looks like Leeds are set to sign one of those.

Reports on Thursday morning state that Leeds are about to complete a deal to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri. Graham Smyth said Leeds wanted Perri, and Brazilian stars Rodrigo Muniz and Igor Paixao.

What does Lucas Perri’s arrival mean for Illan Meslier now?

Perri is said to be flying to Leeds’ Germany training camp, after Leeds and Lyon secured ‘total agreement’ for the uncapped Brazilian. It sees Leeds strike a seventh summer signing, with more expected to follow.

Farke was asked about signing a goalkeeper this week and made it clear he has three good goalkeepers at his disposal. But Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns were always back-up. Illan Meslier is a different case.

With Meslier dropped at the end of last season, Phil Hay said Meslier was ‘done’ at Leeds. With his contract expiring next summer, Perri’s arrival surely suggests that Meslier will pursue a summer exit.

Now, Leeds Live share Leeds’ stance on Meslier. They say that Leeds are not actively pushing Meslier towards the exit door, but there is an ‘acceptance’ that Meslier could leave if a solid offer arrives.
