Man United transfer news LIVE – Rasmus Hojlund latest, Gianluigi Donnarumma links, Carlos Baleba updates

Hello and welcome to the Manchester United transfer blog on Sunday, August 10.

The Reds have played their final pre-season fixture of the summer this weekend, drawing 1-1 with Fiorentina at Old Trafford before winning a penalty shootout. Now, all the attention turns to the new Premier League campaign and the visit of Arsenal a week today.

One man who could be involved is Benjamin Sesko after he was unveiled to the United fans at Old Trafford on Saturday prior to the clash with the Italian giants. His arrival has led to more question marks surrounding Rasmus Hojlund who did not feature against Fiorentina.

Elsewhere, Gianluigi Donnarumma continues to be linked with United while his situation with PSG remains unclear. Meanwhile, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is believed to be an option to add further bite to the midfield.

Amidst all of this, Alejandro Garnacho continues to be focussing on a move to Chelsea and uncertainty remains over the futures of Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.

Take a look at all the latest United transfer news throughout the day, below…

Garnacho tipped to struggle at Chelsea

Speaking to football betting site BetVictor, Chelsea favourite Pat Nevin expressed doubt regarding the suitability of Garnacho at Stamford Bridge.

I don’t see Alejandro Garnacho as a great fit at Chelsea. Chelsea might do it to make money, but is he going to come and light up Chelsea more than Pedro Neto, whose professional attitude, his work rate he’s given for the team has been absolutely fantastic? There’s a whole bunch of other players in that position. Jamie Gittens has come in, Chelsea also have Estevao from Brazil with a lot of expectation, how many players do you need there? £40m isn’t to be sniffed at, you don’t make that much more than that for getting into the Champions League and having a good run. Do you want to spend that on Garnacho who may or may not do okay? Also, if it doesn’t work at Chelsea and it kind of worked averagely at best at Manchester United, there’s no big profit there. So it would surprise me, but I am often surprised by Chelsea.

Barcelona star rejects United

According to Sport, both United and Chelsea have shown ambitions to sign Fermin Lopez in the summer transfer window.

It is claimed that both clubs can activate his £60.6m release clause this summer should they wish to.

However, the 22-year-old is thought to hold no desire in leaving Barcelona this summer having scored six goals in 28 La Liga appearances last term.

This season, of course, the attacking midfielder will be playing alongside Rashford who joined the club on loan in the summer.

Do United need Calvert-Lewin?

On the surface, it seems like United probably don’t need Calvert-Lewin this summer.

Sesko has just signed and he will lead the line for the Reds this season so why sign Calvert-Lewin?

Well, that all depends on the future of Hojlund.

If he is loaned or sold to AC Milan, United could need a player to play back-up to Sesko and Calvert-Lewin could be a low cost option that Amorim may give the green light to.
