Manchester United have officially made contact with Aston Villa in their pursuit of more reinforcements this summer.
The Red Devils have been linked with both Emiliano Martinez and Ollie Watkins as strength is needed at both ends of the pitch, with Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana both having problematic seasons.
Under the new INEOS regime, United’s recruitment strategy has pivoted to focusing on proven Premier League talents, to minimise risk of new signings failing to deliver when thrown into English football.
As such, we’ve seen this in motion with the first two major signings of the summer being Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
With both Martinez and Watkins having successful stints in the Premier League at Villa Park, United are looking at one of the pair to move to Old Trafford by the end of the summer.
Now, The Secret Scout has reported that United have contacted Villa, making a move for Ollie Watkins.
It’s understood that United could also retain Hojlund as a support to Watkins, helping the Denmark international to develop further.
Whilst a move for Watkins would be a major boost for United, the club’s hierarchy have also accepted that they may start the season without a new striker being signed and are even considering looking at the loan market with limited funds available for signings.
