With Manchester United struggling in front of goal last season, scoring just 44 league goals, attacking reinforcements have become a priority in this summer transfer window.

Both first team strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to make the number nine spot their own.

After the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, United are now focusing on recruiting a new number nine, with links to Ollie Watkins, Nicolas Jackson and Benjamin Sesko.

However, United are facing competition from Newcastle United for the signing of Benjamin Sesko.

The 22-year-old striker is seen as one of the best young forwards in the world, and after Alexander Isak revealed his desire to leave Newcastle, they have made Sesko a prime target.

Nicolo Schira has now reported on X that Newcastle and Benjamin Sesko have reached an agreement in principle on a contract running until 2030.

RB Leipzig and Newcastle are now working together to agree on a transfer fee, with the expected value set between €70 and €80 million, plus an additional €5 to €10 million in add-ons due to a gentleman’s agreement.

Although Manchester United remain interested in the striker, this fee is likely beyond their current budget, as they need to sell before making further signings after already spending over £120 million on Mbeumo and Cunha this summer.

If United do miss out on Benjamin Sesko, they are expected to move on to other striker targets on their shortlist.

It has been reported that United are particularly keen on signing a Premier League proven striker who can make an immediate impact and elevate their attack ahead of a crucial season.

This suggests United will shift their focus to Premier League options such as Ollie Watkins and Nicolas Jackson, provided they can negotiate more favourable terms with their respective clubs.
