How Newcastle United could line-up next season.
Newcastle United may have Anthony Elanga through the door, but there is a feeling of frustration inside the football club.
A month until the 2025-26 Premier League season gets underway, the Magpies still have two, now possibly three, key positions to strengthen.
There has been no secret made about Newcastle’s desire to sign a striker with Alexander Isak lacking support and a challenger following Callum Wilson’s exit.
One thing United didn’t plan for was their search to be played out in public. In the last few weeks, they have missed out on Joao Pedro to Chelsea, while Liverpool have come in for Hugo Ekitike after being told Isak was not for sale.
A right-sided centre-back is another priority, while Sean Longstaff’s transfer to Leeds United is likely to leave Howe wanting a midfielder. Meanwhile, the James Trafford saga continues, with Newcastle yet to agree a fee with Burnley.
So yes, there is still plenty of work to be done in order to bolster Howe’s squad ahead of their Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
But when there’s time, there is hope. Here, we take a look at how Newcastle could line-up next season ft new signings.

1. GK: James Trafford
Trafford was set to sign for Newcastle last year but the deal was pulled when Nottingham Forest demanded Odysseas Vlachodimos as part of the PSR swindle that took Elliot Anderson to the City Ground. He’ll likely cost around £35m this time around. | Getty Images

2. RB: Tino Livramento
Fabrizio Romano continues to drum up Manchester City’s interest in Livramento but the 22-year-old is going nowhere. Too important and, even by Man City’s standards, too expensive. | Getty Images

3. CB: Giorgio Scalvini
As already reported by NewcastleWorld, NUFC are huge admirers of Scalvini but have some reservations after his recent injury troubles. Atalanta don’t want to lose him either and value him in excess of £50m. | Getty Images

4. CB: Sven Botman
Botman was instrumental during his first season at St James’ Park but the last two have been dominated by knee issues. If Botman can put those troubles behind him then there’s no doubt he walks into Howe’s best XI. | Getty Images
