Newcastle United handed unexpected Yoane Wissa boost in draining striker saga

Newcastle United are seriously interested in signing Yoane Wissa from Brentford this summer, but have not been able to agree on a fee for the 28-year-old.

While several positions need to be improved, Newcastle United’s priority is to sign at least one new striker ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Alexander Isak is pushing for a move away from Newcastle, with the Sweden international already announcing his intentions to leave the Magpies amid interest from Liverpool.

In turn, Newcastle are interested in Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, who has made it clear that he wishes to leave the Bees after scoring 19 Premier League goals last term. Brentford are reluctant to sell, but will let him go if a replacement is found and Newcastle meet their valuation of the 28-year-old.

Newcastle need some good fortune after a tiring summer window, and a new development from Bournemouth suggests they could be in luck in their efforts to sign Wissa.

Dango Ouattara wants to leave Bournemouth amid Brentford interest

£35million should be enough for Newcastle to sign Wissa, but PIF are reluctant to go much higher with the player approaching 30. However, a deal depends on whether a replacement for the DR Congo striker can be found.

Thankfully for Newcastle, Brentford have been putting in the work behind the scenes as they prepare for life without Wissa, and have identified Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara as his successor.

The Bees have now been handed a boost in their hopes to sign the 23-year-old, with Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam confirming that Ouattara has told Bournemouth he wants to explore his options away from the South Coast this summer.

Outarra has three years left on his deal after signing from Lorient for £20million two-and-a-half years ago, so the Cherries will likely look for a high transfer fee to let him leave.

What Yoane Wissa is doing amid Newcastle United interest

With Ouattara confirming his intentions to leave Bournemouth this summer, the door is open for Newcastle to swoop in for Wissa ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

However, it remains to be seen whether Brentford will pursue a deal for Ouattara, as his price tag is still unknown.

In the meantime, it has been confirmed that Wissa has returned to Brentford training with the new season starting next week. However, Wissa still wants to join Newcastle and is hoping that a resolution can be found sooner rather than later.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews admitted they must respect Wissa’s wishes to leave, but he did not comment on whether he would let him leave before a replacement was brought in.

With one of Brentford’s top targets now open to joining them, Newcastle will hope that can move the needle far enough for a deal to get done.
