Everton have wrapped up the signing of Jack Grealish as David Moyes secures another important addition to his Toffees squad.
Everton are looking to kick on under David Moyes as they move into the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Moyes needs reinforcements, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s move from Chelsea has now been quickly followed up by the arrival of Jack Grealish.
Grealish has joined Everton on loan from Manchester City, taking the number 18 shirt after finalising his move.
Everton could turn the deal permanent in 2026, with Grealish out of Pep Guardiola’s plans at the Etihad Stadium.
Paul Merson shares prediction about Jack Grealish at Everton
Grealish has certainly proven his quality in years gone by, but his time with City has really fizzled out.
Even neutrals will surely want to see Grealish back in full flow and playing at his very best, having been such a brilliant attacking threat with Aston Villa.
Grealish’s maverick nature has been sapped at City, and it’s now down to Moyes to bring the best out of him.
Pundit Paul Merson is certainly excited by that prospect, raving about Grealish’s move while speaking to Sky Sports.
Merson believes that Grealish’s move to Everton is ‘brilliant’ for everybody involved, suggesting that it suits Grealish perfectly due to the space he will now receive.
Merson predicts that Grealish will now rediscover his Aston Villa form with Everton, praising him for a ‘phenomenal’ switch to Merseyside.
The former Arsenal star added that Grealish could now return to the England fold ahead of the 2026 World Cup, but just wants him to focus on hitting top form at Everton first.
“It’s a brilliant move for both parties,” said Merson.
“For Grealish, he’s been at Man City for a good few seasons now, and it’s a case of playing teams with everyone behind the ball. Teams have been doubling up on him, and there’s been no space. He now goes to Everton, and he’ll have space. He’ll be one vs one in a lot of games. He’ll get the ball and be able to attack players, commit them and take them on.
“For Everton, they are getting an £100m player on loan. It’s phenomenal for Everton. I just think this move ticks a lot of boxes. I think we are going to see the Grealish from his Aston Villa days. First things first, Grealish needs to focus on Everton and get going with his new club, but he has given himself a chance with England with this move.
“England have so many players now. It’s phenomenal, but a place in the England squad is in Grealish’s hands. At City, it was out of his hands because he wasn’t playing, but this move gives him a great chance to get back in and get to the World Cup. If he performs to the ability he can, Grealish will be on that plane to America to the World Cup,” he added.
Jack Grealish dazzled for Aston Villa
It’s easy to forget that Grealish actually appeared to be a case of unfulfilled potential after initially breaking through as a wonderkid at Villa.
Grealish found his feet in the end and bagged eight goals as well as six assists in 36 Premier League games during the 2019-20 season.
The 2020-21 campaign saw Grealish hit new heights with six goals and 12 assists, sparking City’s £100million move for the England winger.
Grealish was a superstar at Villa, ghosting past defenders for fun and possessing the guile to unlock defences.
We haven’t seen enough of that in a City shirt, and taking a 29-year-old back to the form they showed four years ago is far from simple.
That is the task facing Moyes, though, and Merson clearly believes that the best version of Grealish is about to emerge in an Everton shirt.
