Sunderland only just secured the loan signing of Marc Guiu from Chelsea on Wednesday, but more good news has now come the fans’ way.

Sunderland announced Marc Guiu’s arrival in midweek, the Chelsea striker penning a loan deal to play for the Black Cats this season.

The Wearsiders have enjoyed a superb transfer window so far, signing a host of top talents including Premier League legend Granit Xhaka.

Now, Sunderland have just confirmed that one of their top talents has penned a new contract, and fans are buzzing.

Sunderland fans delighted as Eliezer Mayenda signs new contract

The player in question is Eliezer Mayenda, who has just signed a new contract at the Stadium of Light until 2030.

Mayenda scored 10 goals and contributed five assists last campaign, including in one of the Championship playoff semi-finals and the final.

Understandably, Sunderland fans are delighted to hear that Mayenda is staying, with some even poking fun at rivals Newcastle United.

One supporter wrote on X: “Only gargantuan football institutions are able to tie down their star strikers.”

The praise kept coming, with one fan hailing Mayenda for what he brings to the table along with his very high ceiling.

Eliezer Mayenda sends message to Sunderland fans

Mayenda explained how Sunderland are the only club for him as he also hailed the city and the fans.

“I’m very happy to sign a new contract,” Mayenda told the club’s media team.

“I think everybody knows that for me, this is my team, my club, my city – so it’s a special moment.

“Sunderland fans are very, very special. I think they’re among the best in England. Playing at the Stadium of Light is always incredible.

“So, if I have one message, it’s to keep going like that – I feel amazing every time I step on the pitch.”
