On Friday, Il Resto del Carlino were confident about Sunderland’s second offer for Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi.
They believed that the Black Cats will put forward €20m plus bonuses of €2m in an attempt to beat competition from Spain and Bournemouth.
Il Resto del Carlino have a new claim today but it seems like Sunderland have made a new offer for Lucumi.
The newspaper report that the new bid is at €22 million plus €3m in bonuses. Even though this meets Bologna’s initial demand of €25m, the Italian side now want a fee of €28m to sell the Colombian
Lucumi’s current contract had a release clause worth €28m and even though it expired earlier this month, Bologna are demanding the same amount now.
The 27-year-old has ignored the Rossoblu’s offer of a new deal but is yet to make a final decision about a move to Sunderland.
This is a key reason why Bologna have increased their asking price. Their offer of a new contract is on Lucumi’s table and could still be accepted, if promising approaches do not arrive for the centre-back.
The newspaper indicate that the defender could be waiting for a move to La Liga. His agent is in Spain to explore the market in the country and if he fails to fetch any offers from La Liga clubs, Sunderland will become a real possibility.
Even if Black Cats have a fee accepted by Bologna, the player’s decision will only arrive after pre-season training ends at the start of next month.
