The 25-year-old is very happy in the Spanish capital, but he is aware that he may not be a regular at the Wanda Metropolitano next season.
Diego Simeone’s team have been very busy in the transfer window this summer, bringing in five players, including Johnny Cardoso.
Reports suggesting that Gallagher could be forced out of Atletico because they’ve filled their EU quota appear to be wide of the mark, given that he qualifies for an Irish passport.
But now the England international could be forced out of the Spanish club in search of regular game time ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
Exclusive: Tottenham remain keen on signing Conor Gallagher
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs who like Conor Gallagher, and TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, has been told that Thomas Frank appreciates him.
Newcastle United also appreciate the Chelsea academy graduate and are looking at the possibility of bringing him back to the Premier League.
Spurs are looking to sign a new number six this summer, and Gallagher could fill the bill perfectly. Tottenham liked Gallagher before his move to Atletico.

The 25-year-old could well appeal to them again, given his homegrown status, which is something Spurs need to keep in mind when signing players this summer.
Speaking about his situation, Bailey told TBR Football: “Gallagher at this point is happy at Madrid, very happy, he has thoroughly enjoyed working with Simeone and feels he made the right choice in moving.
“He does have the England situation in the back of his mind, I am told, and feelers have been put out by intermediaries to check on his potential options, but as said, ideally he stays put.”
Gallagher was part of Thomas Tuchel’s last England squad, but he will be fully aware that he will need to be playing regularly amid strong competition for a spot in the midfield.
Thomas Frank shuts down Cristian Romero exit talk
Atletico Madrid wanted to sign Cristian Romero this summer, but Tottenham have not been open to letting the defender leave.
TBR Football revealed that Atletico have backed away from Romero, having told the Argentine they’ve done all they can to get him out of Spurs.

Tottenham now feel that the Spanish club are unlikely to return at this stage, but the possibility hasn’t been fully ruled out just yet.
Speaking about the defender’s future, Frank told the media: “Two top players, Sonny has been here for 10 years and finally got his well-deserved trophy in the summer.
“Cristian Romero, World Cup winner, Copa America winner twice, very important for us. Both have trained well and set the standards.”
